Crazy Costumes

(Co-Authored by Faith Trescott)

Saturday, June 19th, 2010, was the day of the Midnight Sun Run. Every year, thousands of people from all over the United States come to Fairbanks, Alaska to participate in this race. At the race, they have a costume contest. People get really into the costumes and dress crazy and fun. This year you could have seen anything from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to The Incredibles. Morgan, Laura, Kim, and China, all got dressed up this year for the Midnight Sun Run race.
Seeing a snake and a snake charmer is totally normal around this race; so are seeing super girls. Morgan and Laura are friends that dressed up as the snake and snake charmer. They are both from Alaska and both entered, for the first time, in the costume contest. “We both do it every year for the Sun Run,” said Morgan. They’ve been in the Sun Run for five years now, and they’ve dressed up every year. They both said that they think “it’s hilarious” dressing up. “It’s too cold to wear a costume in October here,” said Laura.
Kim and China are also two best friends that decided to dress up this year for the race as super girls. “She texted me and was like, ‘I’m going tonight let’s dress up like super heroes’, and I joined in,” said China. “It was something fun because my mom always says that people dress up,” said Kim. This being both of their first races and being in the costume contest, they plan on winning the race, “A little, maybe.”
Overall the costume contest is by far the best part of the race. It gets everyone pumped to run. Hopefully these girls did great in the contest. We wish everyone in the future costume contests good luck in winning.
